BURR RIDGE – CISCO’s 5th 2024 Project of the Year Feature is the top choice of Rehab, which is the RUSH MD Anderson Cancer Center at Rush Lisle. General contractor was Leopardo; the client was Rush University Medical Center.

When considering submissions, judging criteria is based on: quality of construction, design, impact on the community and safety record.

Leopardo completed an extensive renovation and expansion of an existing former office building into the state-of-the-art RUSH MD Anderson Cancer Center at Rush Lisle. The project included a 2,300-square foot, one-story addition for a LINAC vault, spaces for radiation oncology, medical oncology, infusion clinic, pharmacy and lab services, as well as advanced imaging center with MRI, CT Scan, Ultrasound, X-ray, and mammography.

The building also houses therapy areas for meditation, massage, and group exercise. A major facade upgrade was completed, including the addition of ACM metal panels and staining of the existing granite to enhance the Rush Hospital branding look.

The staff at the new facility is committed to providing compassionate, personalized cancer care to members of the community every step of the way, providing advanced cancer care tailored to every individual through cutting-edge treatments like immunotherapy and targeted therapy.

Having infusion and radiation therapy, cancer support services, lab services, a pharmacy, and urgent cancer care all under one roof makes the receipt of care easier and more convenient for community members and supports Rush’s goal of increasing access to academic cancer care as it delivers on its mission to provide seamless, top-quality care to its patients and community.

The quality of care offered expands hope, possibilities, and access to some of the best care for patients across the Chicago area and beyond.

Leopardo’s team of preconstruction and estimating experts helped guide the project through a complex field of material procurement. Materials with long lead times were identified up front and construction was adroitly scheduled around those times to ensure no delays.

Leopardo also utilized its in-house team of Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) experts to create models of the building that helped ensure accuracy and prevent delays before they happened.

This project had a customized safety plan and QR-code based safety orientation that allowed for immediate access to project safety information. Rather than a traditional “toolbox talk” style training, the project teams engaged in a 5-question quiz to determine how well they know that week’s safety topics.

Scores are utilized to follow-up as appropriate. Weekly safety visits were conducted by the Leopardo safety team to provide a new perspective and share recent news from other sites. The Leopardo safety team also engaged with the weekly pull planning process to help with safety planning efforts. This project had zero incidents.
