Apprenticeship Programs Currently Accepting Applications:


The trade consists of grinding, tuckpointing, masonry repair work, concrete restoration, building cleaning, caulking and waterproofing.  This work is generally performed from swing stage scaffolding on the exterior of buildings.  Hand and power tools are used to perform the work of the trade.

Requirements
  1.  Birth Certificate
2.  Valid Drivers License
3.  Selective Service on line registration for males between 19 and 26 years of age
4.  DD214 Military Discharge, to receive credit for previous experience
5.  Social Security Card or valid work permit
6.  Applicant must be able to speak, read and understand the English Language.

There is a $20.00 application fee at the time of application

All applicants will be required to present a valid drivers license at the time of application and a copy will be made and placed in each applicant’s folder when applicant provides a letter of intent to hire from intended employer.

Physical Ability-It shall be mandatory on the part of each applicant summiting a letter of intent to present a Doctor’s Certificate as evidence of their physical fitness sufficient to perform the work of the trade.  The physical shall be the expense of the apprentice.

The Applicant when providing a letter of intent will be required to appear for a drug screening.  The JATC will notify the selected applicant of the time, date, and location of the drug screening.  Any applicants failing to appear for the drug screening at the assigned time and any applicants failing the durg screening test will be immediately disqualified as an apprentice applicant.

Plasterers Local 5Plasterers’ Local 5 will be accepting applications for apprenticeship every 2nd and 4th Thursday each month between the hours of 10:00 am and 2:00 pm only.

Applicants must appear at the Union office, 5611 W. 120th St., Alsip, IL , to file the application.  Each applicant must appear in person and fill out the application at the time of appearance.  No application will be sent through the mail, nor will any application returmed in any other manner be accepted.

Applicants must be a US citizen or legally authorized to work in the United States; at least 17 years of age; a high school graduate, or GED; and physically fit to perform the work of the trade.  All applicants must have a valid drivers license and transportation; and must have the ability to read, write and converse in conventional English.  Applicants may be subject to employer drug testing.

The applicant shall bring at the time of application:
1.  Birth certificate or proof of age
2. Drivers License
3.  DD-214 form if applicant is a veteran

Entry Process:  Applicants must secure employment on their own with a signatory plastering contractor (list of signatory contractors available at the union office) and submit a letter of intent on the employer’s company letterhead.  Applicants must pay the Apprentice Initiation Fee within six months of employment.

Welding Qualification:  Applicants that have a welding certification or weld training qualifications will have priority selection over applicants with no welding qualifications.  Applicants must provide a copy and proof of welding certification or weld training qualification at time of application.
